Can Virb overcome the curse of Myspace?

Virb

Virb, a fairly new “Web 2.0″ social networking start-up, is a service I have been investigating recently and have quite liked it. I was never apart of the Myspace trend, I found it to be unorganized and vulgar, not to mention the fact that I was afraid of the negative image it seemed to project on to people. I started out with Facebook last year, and I quite enjoy it because of the features, but it seems to be missing that more media centric element. That is where Virb comes in. With it’s feature rich music tab and iTunes integration, it makes it the ultimate way to share playlist’s, concert dates, individual songs and other media. One band, Bloc Party, whom I am a huge fan of, feature’s songs that can be downloaded and added to a favorites list in your control panel. The song is then automatically added to your mini player, another great feature of the site, and it is ready to be played and even shared with other users.

Some of the other notable features:

  • Flickr Module
  • Google and Youtube Module Support
  • Drag and Drop Modules

Things I would like to see:

  • Wordpress/Typepad Support
  • An easier way to send Beta invites

While I am into Virb now, it doesn’t mean that I will stop using Facebook by any means. I’ve built to large of a network for myself to give it up now, and plus, Facebook and Virb are different. Facebook, the more organizational and academically oriented social hub, and Virb, the more artistic and expressive counterpart. I think of it as a Left Brain right Brain relationship, and it works.

Your Thoughts on Virb?
